President Donald Trump called for Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) to be impeached from Congress after an unsuccessful censure resolution failed to punish her for comments she made about Charlie Kirk.
Trump also disparaged the congresswoman in later comments, suggesting she was “scum,” and claimed she married her brother to gain citizenship.
“I think she should be impeached. I think she’s terrible,” Trump said Thursday aboard Air Force One. He acknowledged he was impeached twice, and later added, “She should be impeached, and it should happen fast.”
Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) tried a censure resolution against Omar, but it failed after multiple Republicans voted against it in exchange for a different censure resolution to be dropped against Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL).

After Trump’s comments aboard Air Force One, the president took to Truth Social to disparage Omar’s home country of Somalia and accused her of marrying her brother.
“Somalia is consistently ranked among the World’s Most Corrupt Countries, including Bribery, Embezzlement, and a Dysfunctional Government,” he wrote.
“All of this, and Ilhan Omar tells us how to run America! P.S. Wasn’t she the one that married her brother in order to gain Citizenship??? What SCUM we have in our Country, telling us what to do, and how to do it,” he added.
Several fact-checks have been attempted to disprove the claim that Omar married her brother, but none have found conclusive evidence that she did so.
The Constitution likely does not allow for the impeachment of members of Congress. But the House may choose to propose a motion to expel Omar.

That motion would require a two-thirds majority, which Republicans do not hold in the House. Democrats are unlikely to vote for her expulsion.
Former New York Republican Rep. George Santos, who is currently serving a prison sentence, was the last member of Congress to be removed from office.
