Washington Examiner’s Joe Concha said the latest setback in prosecuting President Donald Trump further illustrates how the legal battles “almost helped” Trump.
The Georgia Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal from Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis on Tuesday, leaving in place a lower-court ruling that disqualified her from prosecution. Concha noted “how times have changed” from two years ago, when Trump faced dozens of indictments while campaigning for president.
“Fani Willis, two years ago, had Donald Trump lined up for a prison jumpsuit. Open and shut case, it’s Fulton County, Georgia, she thought she could go RICO on him. Now she’s going to join Trump in being a, probably, a McDonald’s employee, the only place that may employ her. And meanwhile, Trump and Melania, where are they today? Getting feted by the king of England in a horse-drawn carriage,” Concha said on Wednesday during Fox Business’s Kudlow.
Concha also said the myriad of legal battles “almost helped Trump in the end,” as Trump would talk about “the deep state” and “own the news cycle” for up to 45 minutes. The candidate, now president, would highlight how his charges were “BS,” and two years later, none of the legal battles are having any effect while Trump is in the White House with a Republican-controlled Congress.
“This thing backfired in the biggest way possible,” Concha said.
Willis was removed from the case following revelations that she had concealed a romantic relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade, whom she hired in 2021. Defense attorneys alleged the relationship constituted a conflict of interest and undermined public confidence in the prosecution.

Wade testified before Congress in October and said Willis had started preparations for Trump’s prosecutions before she took office in January 2021. He confirmed Willis began outreach for a Trump-related search committee “sometime” after the 2020 election, but before she took office.
Trump poked fun at Willis and Wade in an edited video he uploaded on X. The video shows Wade romantically thinking of Willis as Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On” plays. The original video features Wade giving a lengthy pause when asked if he ever went to a cabin with Willis, eventually saying “no.”
