It’s no secret that Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) is not a fan of President Donald Trump, or any Republican for that matter. In fact, most of his X feed is filled with incendiary comments scolding the president, his policies, or congressional Republicans. Typically, Swalwell’s commentary has always been laced with a sarcastic, obnoxious tone. Recently, however, the California congressman has resorted to lying about Trump and crime rates in Washington, D.C.
On Aug. 27, at 10:50 p.m., Swalwell posted on his personal X account that crime has risen in the nation’s capital since Trump deployed the National Guard there.
“It’s been 17 days since Trump militarized DC,” Swalwell posted. “Crime is on the rise. Trump owns it.”
This is categorically false.
Swalwell started the dishonest posts about crime rising since Trump deployed the National Guard on Aug. 13 and has posted an iteration of the false information every day since then. Swalwell was exposed for his sins with a community note on his post, yet he continued posting the lie. He’s a chronic liar, plain and simple. He lies to the citizens of the country and engages in rampant, widespread brainwashing.

As I previously wrote, the statistics show that Trump’s decision to deploy National Guard troops has worked, leading to a decrease in crime in Washington, D.C. Robberies have dropped 46%, assaults with a deadly weapon have dropped 6%, automobile thefts have fallen 21%, and property crime has dipped 6%. Furthermore, carjackings have dropped 83% and violent crime decreased 22%.
These facts are easily accessible — Swalwell just chose to ignore them. He is not interested in telling the truth. The deceitful and dishonest Swalwell is only interested in controlling narratives, even if it means being a pathological liar.
Swalwell’s posting of lies, deceptive comments, or misinformation is nothing new. It’s a sad commentary in and of itself that he does such things. After all, if Trump or his actions were as bad as Swalwell claimed they were, there would be no need for his dishonesty. Nevertheless, it’s indicative of his integrity and character, or lack thereof, especially given his history of performative devotion to telling the truth.
Interestingly, Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, a fellow Democrat, also acknowledged that Trump’s decision to deploy troops has decreased crime in the city. More interestingly, Bowser expressed enthusiasm for keeping an increased law enforcement presence after the 30-day time frame Trump is legally obligated to, because more law enforcement equals less crime, and less crime is a good thing. Incidentally, Bowser’s comments came just hours before Swalwell posted his most recent social media post about crime rising in the city.

The most significant thing we are highlighting today is the area of crime that was most troubling for us in 2023,” Bowser said. “We know that when carjackings go down, when the use of gun goes down, when homicide or robbery go down, neighborhoods feel safer and are safer. So this surge has been important to us.”
Give Bowser credit. She might be a Democrat, but she has more integrity than Swalwell. At least she cares about protecting innocent people from criminals — or seems to care based on her comments. Swalwell wouldn’t care if hundreds of lives were saved because of Trump. He has shown he would never admit the truth. Sadly, he is not alone, and he is an example of just how low Democrats will sink in their thirst for political influence and power.
