Schiff claims mortgage fraud is Trump’s ‘new weapon’ in latest denial of allegations

.

Sen. Adam Schiff (D-CA) claimed on Sunday that mortgage fraud is President Donald Trump‘s “new weapon,” as a Department of Justice investigation into the California senator is already well underway.

Since early August, Trump’s special attorney Ed Martin has been leading the investigation into Schiff over allegations that he listed more than one property as his primary residence and falsified “bank documents and property records to acquire more favorable loan terms” on one of the properties. Schiff has consistently denied wrongdoing, but has recently created a legal defense fund as a legal war over the matter looms.

In an appearance on NBC News’s Meet the Press on Sunday, Schiff trashed the investigation as manufactured, claiming Federal Housing Finance Agency Bill Pulte, who sent the criminal referral to the DOJ in May, “knows it” and is merely doing Trump’s “bidding.”

“He’s essentially doing the president’s bidding against me, against Letitia James, against this person on the Federal Reserve. Mortgage is their new weapon to go after their critics,” Schiff said. “The common denominator is they will manufacture anything to go after their critics, after members of Congress to try to silence them, after John Bolton, after people in the Federal Reserve, after generals, after former presidents. They’re investigating Comey and Clapper, the Obamas, the Clintons. Basically, it’s free rein with a corrupt leadership at the Justice Department.”

Pulte responded to Schiff’s latest comments earlier Sunday, vowing to not back down from the investigation.

“Fraud is bad, no matter who does it. I will not be intimidated,” he posted on X.

TRUMP SAYS HE WILL FIRE FED GOVERNOR LISA COOK OVER MORTGAGE FRAUD ALLEGATIONS

Schiff’s latest remarks on the investigation come as the DOJ is looking into other high-profile officials over alleged mortgage fraud.

Those include New York Attorney General Letitia James and, most recently, Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook, who Trump said he will fire if she doesn’t resign.
