No evidence of shooter at University of South Carolina after earlier report

There is no evidence of an active shooter at the University of South Carolina, after multiple alerts about a shooter in the school’s main library were sent out earlier Sunday evening.

“We received an unconfirmed report of an active shooter at the Thomas Cooper library,” a university spokesperson told a CNN affiliate. “At this point, we have no injuries, and we have no confirmation that there actually was a shooter at the library.”

An update from the university just before 8 p.m., however, said police are still searching the area.

“Please continue to shelter in place until there is an all clear. Avoid the area. Evacuate the area or seek safe shelter and barricade yourself in a safe area as necessary until further notice,” the alert said.

Classes for students at the university began last Tuesday.
