Jimmy Fallon hosted Fox News personality Greg Gutfeld Thursday night on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, in a rare crossover between the networks.
Gutfeld promoted his Fox Nation game show, What Did I Miss? The new show sequestered contestants for 90 days in upstate New York and quizzed them on whether news headlines were real or fake.
“When they come out, we quiz them on the news … and with Trump, you can’t tell [what’s true or false],” the conservative comedian said.
Gutfeld then used the example of President Donald Trump “demand[ing]” the annexation of Canada to demonstrate a question that contestants could be asked when they leave.
“You never know what [Trump] is going to do,” Gutfeld said.
Fallon responded, “You might not even need to sequester people.”
Throughout the 10-minute segment, the two also discussed the first time they met and Gutfeld’s journey to Fox News, largely steering clear of talking politics.
“You think firing is bad, it’s the best thing in the world,” Gutfeld said. “You always end up someplace better.”
Fallon and Gutfeld met roughly 15 years ago at a mutual friend’s speakeasy in Hell’s Kitchen. Both men recalled being “wasted” that night.
“I walk into this bar, and I’m with my friend Andy … I go, ‘What the hell have I got into?’ And then I see you[Fallon], and you look at me, and your eyes just kind of explode. And you run towards me and you tackled me like you’re a giant golden retriever,” Gutfeld said.
Leading this episode of The Tonight Show, Gutfeld teased his appearance last week on his own late-night show, Gutfeld!, calling the taping “the biggest crossover since the Harlem Globetrotters visited the Golden Girls.”
“Unlike the other guys, Jimmy sitting with me proves he’s not afraid of upsetting his peers or afraid of my mesmerizing charm,” Gutfeld said on his Aug. 2 show.
Gutfield! enjoys good ratings as several other programs decline in viewership. It was also the only show to grow in its audience metrics.
NEW PARAMOUNT HEAD DOESN’T WANT TO ‘POLITICIZE’ COMPANY AS MERGER CLOSES
Gutfeld! dominated late-night television ratings in the second quarter with an average of 3 million viewers, with a reported 365,000 viewers in the key 25 to 54 age demographic.
All three episodes of What Did I Miss? are available now on Fox Nation.
