Rep. Marc Veasey (D-TX) dismissed the report on Russian interference during the 2016 election from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard because it has “absolutely no legs.”
Gabbard is now referring prosecution for former President Barack Obama, since revealing that Obama directed his intelligence team to publish an assessment that Russia sought to interfere in the 2016 election on President Donald Trump’s behalf. At the time, the intelligence community’s assessment found that Russia was not specifically backing the then Republican nominee.
“I know Tulsi Gabbard better than Donald Trump knows Tulsi Gabbard, and Tulsi Gabbard is lying,” Veaseyl said of the report. “Tulsi is literally just trying to make sure that she can keep her job and stay relevant.”
Veasey served in the House during Gabbard’s entire tenure from 2013 to 2021. Gabbard retired from the House to run for president as a Democratic candidate but abandoned the Democratic Party a year after the election.
According to Veasey, this latest report is an alleged effort to compensate for the The Defense Intelligence Agency’s preliminary assessment, including its conclusion that less damage was inflicted than Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth publicly claimed.
“What is going on with Tulsi is that she likes to be in the spotlight and because her intelligence report disagreed with his assessment on Iran, she’s kind of been persona non grata lately,” Veasey said.
TRUMP AND OBAMA, FOREVER LINKED IN HISTORY
“And so she just concocted this to try to get back into his good graces,” Veasey said of her most recent report. “There’s absolutely no legs to this. There’s no truth to this.”
Gabbard cited “irrefutable evidence” that motivated her to refer Obama for criminal prosecution. She did not specify any specific charges and would not answer questions about whether as director she would recommend treason charges as Trump suggested.
