House Oversight members call for arrests over Obama 2016 election narrative

Reps. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) and Byron Donalds (R-FL) called for arrests after new records into the Obama administration revealed that the claims Russia interfered with the 2016 presidential election were “manufactured and politicized intelligence.”

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard declassified records on Friday showing “a treasonous conspiracy” to prevent President Donald Trump from “fulfilling his mandate.” Luna said the report is a “perfect example and reason” to push for reform of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

“And what I can tell you is if we don’t stop this, if we don’t actually say ‘this will not be tolerated,’ this is not a Democrat or Republican thing, this is about the health and the sanctity of our constitutional republic, and so there needs to be arrests,” Luna said on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo. “This is not partisan, this is simply illegal what they did, and we’re simply upholding the law.”

Donalds also said the Russia collusion story against Trump was widely accepted by many people because “big media organizations” did not do the “extra work” to fact-check and instead “followed and toed the company line.” Donalds added that those in the intelligence community were either worried about being fired or were so concerned about a Trump presidency that they went along with the report, agreeing with Luna on a need for arrests.

“This is not about one president, it is about the presidency and the continuation of our country,” Donalds said.

Luna was asked if either Attorney General Pam Bondi or FBI Director Kash Patel could carry out arrests in the wake of these declassified documents, to which she said this would be “an easy win” for both of them.

Gabbard said Sunday there is enough evidence to move forward with prosecutions, urging indictments “for those responsible.”
