The View cohost Ana Navarro rebuked President Donald Trump on Monday after he threatened to revoke comedian Rosie O’Donnell’s U.S. citizenship, a move Navarro called undemocratic and legally impossible.
“This is not North Korea. This is not a monarchy,” Navarro said during Monday’s episode of The View. “Donald Trump — and no president — has the authority or jurisdiction to unilaterally take anybody’s citizenship away.”
Navarro’s comments come in response to a post Trump made Saturday on his social media platform Truth Social, in which he labeled O’Donnell “a threat to humanity” and said he was “giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship.”
O’Donnell, a longtime Trump critic and former cohost of The View, moved to Ireland in January following Trump’s reelection. Trump added in his post that she should “remain in the wonderful Country of Ireland.”
O’Donnell, a natural-born U.S. citizen, fired back in a lengthy Instagram post over the weekend, mocking Trump’s fixation on her and rejecting his suggestion that she no longer belongs in the United States.
“You want to revoke my citizenship? Go ahead and try, King Joffrey with a tangerine spray tan. I’m not yours to silence. I never was,” she wrote. “You are everything that is wrong with America — and I’m everything you hate about what’s still right with it.”
Trump criticized her again on Sunday when asked about O’Donnell by influencer Link Lauren, calling her “a mess” and stating, “She left our country, which is a good thing, not a bad thing.”

Navarro told viewers that the process of revoking citizenship, in extremely rare cases, involves judicial review and is limited to extraordinary circumstances such as treason.

“Rosie O’Donnell is a natural-born U.S. citizen. There are very few things a citizen can do that would justify losing their citizenship, and that would have to be decided by a judge,” Navarro said. “So if anybody has to be careful, it ain’t Rosie.”
The latest spat is one of many between Trump and O’Donnell, whose feud dates back nearly two decades.
