“Nothing but harmony, honesty, industry, and frugality are necessary to make us a great and happy people.” — George Washington.
“[Independence Day] will be celebrated with pomp and parade, bonfires and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other.” — John Adams.
That’s a sampling of the many patriotic and positive sentiments from two of our leading Founding Fathers and the first two presidents.
How about the current president, Donald Trump? What are his feelings about the country on the Fourth of July? Here’s what he had to say about the subject at Mount Rushmore on July 4, 2020.
“This great heritage belongs to citizens of every background and of every walk of life. No matter our race, color, religion, or creed, we are one America, and we put America first. We will not allow anyone to divide our citizens by race or background. We will not allow them to foment hate, discord, and distrust. We will hold fast and true to the sacred loyalties that link us all as neighbors, as Americans, and as patriots.”
But not everyone is feeling the love for Uncle Sam and the Stars and Stripes. Enter the increasingly unhinged Left, which will be holding more protests across the country on Independence Day filled not with jingoism, but jarring anger.
“No Kings is a nationwide day of defiance. From city blocks to small towns, from courthouse steps to community parks, we’re taking action to reject authoritarianism—and show the world what democracy really looks like. We’re not gathering to feed Trump’s ego. We’re building a movement that leaves him behind,” (emphasis mine) reads the mission statement from the “No Kings” website.
“Stay home, stay silent and gather only with loved ones [on July 4],” urged Jon Schwarz, a “No Kings” organizer, apparently urging people to shelter in place and stay quiet during the nation’s biggest bash because America is, according to him, “a country that doesn’t love you back.”
The juxtaposition has never been more apparent. Here we have a solid majority of the country doing what we’ve always done as a republic: commemorate the passage of the Declaration of Independence with baseball, barbecues, and beer, capped off with an awesome fireworks display near you.
But for whatever reason, the lunatics running the “No Kings” protests have a better idea by rejecting America’s greatness and resisting Trump in the name of “saving democracy” while denouncing the nation as horrible, racist, transphobic, and xenophobic.
It is Zohran Mandani, who moved here from Uganda just a few years ago, who told CNN and NBC News this week that he rejects the concept of capitalism. And it is also Mamdani who once declared that the Marxist Revolution of 1917 was actually something to celebrate and that “whiter neighborhoods” should be taxed higher in New York City while billionaires “should not exist.”
No, really…
Meanwhile, on the commonsense side, “President Trump looks forward to celebrating our nation’s founding on Friday in the nation’s capital,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt shared on Monday. “To join in the celebration, the might of America’s Air Force will conduct a flyover featuring our state-of-the-art F-22s, B-2s, and F-35s — the same air capabilities used for the decisive and successful strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities.”
Well, that’s certainly warranted, given the grueling and daring mission our brave pilots carried out to damage Iran’s nuclear capabilities. If we lived in normal times, basically everyone in the country would stand and cheer for our men and women who carried out this mission, especially while being honored by a sitting president in the nation’s capital.
It’s not unlike during the aftermath of 9/11, when New Yorkers chanted “USA! USA!” as then-President George W. Bush threw a perfect strike from the rubber during the ceremonial first pitch before a World Series game in the deep-blue Bronx to a thunderous roar of approval. On that cool October night, it wasn’t red or blue but red, white, and blue, and an indelible sentiment of unity in the face of the biggest attack on U.S. soil since World War II.
Unfortunately, it ain’t 2001 anymore. Not even close.
To underscore this point, Gallup released a poll on Monday asking those surveyed if they were proud to be Americans.
The results between 2001 and now are disturbing.
In October 2001, 87% of Democrats said they were proud to be an American, while 90% of Republicans also said yes.
In 2025, just 36% of Democrats said they were proud to be Americans, a 51-point drop, while 92% of Republicans still said yes, a 2-point increase from 24 years ago. A Fox News poll released on Tuesday shows the same result, with Democrats at just 36%.
Let’s pause to think about this: Barely more than 1 in 3 Americans who identify as Democrats are proud to live here, while more than 9 in 10 Republicans say the same. Perhaps these same Democrats are listening to Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), who recently exclaimed that Trump’s military parade in June to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Army was a horrific sight that has turned the U.S. into “one of the worst countries” on the planet.
“I don’t even remember ever witnessing anything like that to have a democracy, a beacon of hope for the world to now be turned into one of the, you know, one of the worst countries, where the military are in our streets without any regard for people’s constitutional rights,” Omar said in an interview.
At last check, “people’s constitutional rights” are alive and well, as evidenced by the very “No Kings” protests that proceed completely unhindered. At last check, honoring the U.S. military is always a great thing. But to Omar, it has reduced America to being beneath all contempt.
Again, another huge disconnect here: A 2025 Gallup poll on trust, honesty, and ethics shows that the military ranks near the top of all professionals, only behind nurses and grade school teachers. The only three professions that are underwater by a majority are (mostly liberal) TV reporters (13% approval), members of Congress like Omar (8% approval ), and lobbyists (4% approval).
July Fourth is quickly approaching. Overall, according to the aforementioned Fox News poll, 60% of Americans are proud to be Americans. That number would be higher if not for dour Democrats, who love to talk about saving democracy and “no kings” despite trying to imprison then-candidate Trump while attempting (and failing) to take him off of state ballots.
These are also the same voters who rallied behind former Vice President Kamala Harris, who has run for president twice and has yet to receive one vote from primary voters while being installed as the nominee in 2024 in the most undemocratic way possible.
MAMDANI’S NYC DEMOCRATIC MAYORAL PRIMARY WIN BECOMES OFFICIAL
Enjoy our Independence Day on Friday. And stay off social media and away from liberal quarters of cable news.
Because if violence, riots, and resentment are something you’d rather avoid in favor of feeling pride in your country while having a good time, that puts you in the happier majority of the country that actually appreciates the idea and ideals of the American spirit.
