Musk praises Trump on foreign policy despite tensions reigniting over ‘big, beautiful bill’

Elon Musk extended an olive branch to President Donald Trump early Wednesday morning after another escalation of their feud, praising him for his foreign policy accomplishments.

After sparring with the president for the last three days over his One Big Beautiful Bill Act, Musk changed his tune to praise Trump, specifically his accomplishments in foreign policy.

“Credit where credit is due. @realDonaldTrump has successfully resolved several serious conflicts around the world,” he said in a post on X, referencing a Truth Social post from the president announcing that Israel had agreed to the conditions for a ceasefire with the terrorist group Hamas.

Just three minutes before, Musk had responded to a post showcasing Trump’s Truth Social post threatening to withdraw his government contracts, saying the president’s comments were “So disappointing.”

Trump’s peace efforts have won him some of the biggest plaudits of his second term. His administration has played a central role in solving or cooling down conflicts in the Indian subcontinent, the Balkans, the Middle East, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Perhaps the most impactful was Trump’s brokering of a ceasefire between India and Pakistan last month, when a terrorist attack in India triggered a series of escalating drone and air battles between the nuclear-armed powers. Though his role was disputed by India, hesitant to present Pakistan as an equal power, Pakistan has sung Trump’s praises in the aftermath. Pakistani People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said at a June embassy event that Trump administration officials were “up all night” for five days solving the crisis.

The government of Pakistan officially nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his role, arguing his action “manifestly showcases the continuation of his legacy of pragmatic diplomacy and effective peace-building.”

One of Trump’s lesser-known but most impactful efforts was bringing a hopeful end to the long-lasting conflict between Congo and Rwanda. Rwandan Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe and Congolese Foreign Minister Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner signed a peace agreement in Washington, D.C., on Friday to end fighting between Kinshasa and the Rwandan-backed insurgency in the eastern DRC, led by the rebel group M23.

Kinshasa, Kigali, and Washington all hope the agreement will go beyond ending just the insurgency to end hostilities that have claimed over 6 million lives since 1997 permanently.

Speaking at an Oval Office ceremony commemorating the peace agreement, Congolese journalist Hariana Verás thanked Trump for his efforts and relayed the personal thanks of DRC President Felix Tshisekedi, who told her he would consider nominating Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

In the Middle East, Trump halted an escalating war between Israel and Iran after 12 days of conflict, striking a ceasefire between the countries. When both violated it moments after the deadline, the president vigorously enforced it, pushing Israel to call off most of an aerial retaliation it was in the middle of conducting.

The details are more vague regarding Kosovo dealings in helping cool down the long-standing conflict between Kosovo and Serbia, but the president said that before his intervention, Belgrade was “about to start a clash.”

The president has also been involved in brokering peace between Ukraine and Russia as well as Israel and Hamas, with both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Palestinian terrorist group signaling openness to a ceasefire this week.

Trump has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize numerous times for his international efforts.

Musk’s praise for Trump comes amid the renewal of their feud, which shattered their relationship last month before seemingly cooling down. Musk voiced his outrage with Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” on Sunday, escalating criticism on Monday to include a threat to begin a new political party over the legislation.

Trump responded in earnest, threatening to take away Musk’s government contracts and even possibly deport him.

“I don’t know. We’ll have to take a look [at deporting Musk]. We might have to put [the Department of Government Efficiency] on Elon,” Trump told reporters Tuesday morning before traveling to the Florida Everglades to visit a migrant detention center. “You know what DOGE is? DOGE is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon.”

“Wouldn’t that be terrible? He gets a lot of subsidies,” Trump continued.

The president had earlier threatened to cancel Musk’s government contracts, saying he was getting more subsidies “than any human being in history, by far,” and that without subsidies the billionaire would “probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa.”
