President Donald Trump thanked Colorado and artist Vanessa Horabuena for displaying a new painting of himself in the state’s capital.
The fresh portrait comes after Trump decried the last one displayed of him, which he claimed had been “purposefully distorted.” Trump’s new portrait, painted by Horabuena, is on display at the Colorado State Capitol and resembles his original inauguration portrait.
“Thank you to the Highly Talented Artist, Vanessa Horabuena, and the incredible people of Colorado — Now on display in the Colorado State Capitol!” Trump said on Truth Social.
The artist of the original Trump portrait, Sarah Boardman, pushed back against accusations that she distorted her painting. She had previously only received “overwhelmingly positive reviews and feedback.” She also stated that her business “has changed for the worse” after the president’s criticism.
In addition to Trump, Boardman has painted portraits of former presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, the latter of which Trump described as “wonderful.”

Horabuena describes herself on her website and social media as a Christian worship artist. She has also painted former presidents such as President Abraham Lincoln.
Following Trump’s criticism of Boardman’s painting, Colorado Democrats approved efforts to remove the portrait. Republican Senate Minority Leader Paul Lundeen requested that the painting be replaced with one depicting Trump’s “contemporary likeness.”
