Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo conceded to socialist state Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani in the New York City Democratic primary for mayor on Tuesday night after the first round of voting showed Mamdani ahead by several points.
The final ranked choice voting result will be tabulated next week, as no candidate crossed 50% of the vote.
Cuomo said he called to congratulate Mamdani.
“I’m very proud of the campaign that we ran … but tonight was not our night,” Cuomo told supporters. “Tonight was Assemblyman Mamdani’s night, and he put together a great campaign, and he touched young people and inspired them. … I called him, I congratulated him.”
