Paul says reconciliation bill should be split up to rein in Congress debt expansion

.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) continued to object to raising the debt ceiling for government spending as his chamber is about to vote on the Big Beautiful Bill Act, calling for Congress to reign in its debt expansion.

Paul is not the only critic of the spending and tax legislation. The bill has come under scrutiny from Republican senators for costing some $400 billion in tax cuts. Paul appeared on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo to detail his objections, which do not include the tax cuts since he supports them.

“The spending cuts are not nearly enough. The other way to look at that is ask, year to year will we spend more money next year than last year? The answer is gonna be yes. Will the deficit be over $2 trillion next year? The answer is yes. This is why my big objection to the bill is they want to ask us to expand their credit line to $5 trillion,” Paul said.

“So, if your teenager at 16, you gave them a credit card and they maxed it out on booze and gambling and they were $2,000 in debt and they said, ‘Well, Mom, Dad, I want more credit.’ Would you give them more credit?” the senator continued. “Congress is like drunken teenagers. They’re terrible with money.”

Paul attempted to add his own amendment that would only raise the debt ceiling every three months.

TRUMP’S CRITICISM OF RAND PAUL IS WRONG AND MISGUIDED

Paul continues to hold strong to his stance despite pressure from President Donald Trump. In a Truth Social post, Trump claimed, “Rand votes NO on everything, but never has any practical or constructive ideas.”

The Kentucky senator has said he does “want to vote for it.” However, Paul has also suggested he knows of four Republican senators prepared to vote against the “big, beautiful bill.”
