More voters than not believe that former Department of Government Efficiency chief Elon Musk failed in his mission to help President Donald Trump root out waste, fraud, and abuse, and that he damaged America in the process.
In the latest Rasmussen Reports survey shared with Secrets, Musk received mixed grades on his 100-day effort credited with saving trillions of dollars and shaking up the Washington, D.C., swamp.
As with everything in D.C., the results were highly partisan, with Republicans approving of Musk and Democrats disapproving.
Until recently, Musk was seen as a loyal ally of Trump. However, since leaving his White House post, he has turned on Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” of tax cuts and spending increases. Today, the relationship soured further as the two engaged in name-calling, which hurt Tesla’s stock and disrupted Wall Street.
TRUMP ON MUSK: “You saw a man who was very happy when he stood behind the Oval desk, even with a black eye. I said, ‘do you want a little makeup?’ He said, ‘No, I don’t think so,’ which is interesting.”

Rasmussen asked two key questions.
The first: “Elon Musk recently announced he is stepping down from leading Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency. In this role, did Elon Musk do more to help or hurt the country?
The results: 40% said “help,” 48% said “hurt,” and 12% said “not sure.”

The second question: “The Department of Government Efficiency was supposed to identify waste, fraud, and abuse in federal government spending. Did the Department of Government Efficiency mostly succeed or mostly fail in that job?”
The results: 44% said “mostly succeeded,” 47% said “mostly failed,” and 9% said “not sure.”
