Trump calls Dilbert creator Scott Adams after prostate cancer diagnosis

.

Scott Adams, the creator of the comic strip Dilbert, said he and President Donald Trump had a “fun” conversation after the president left him a voicemail to check in on Adams following his cancer diagnosis.

Adams announced he had been diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer on Monday. He has received many messages of support, leading to many going to voicemail, including one from an unknown Florida number, he said.

“I sent it to voicemail, and a little bit later, I thought, ‘Oh, I better check that voicemail and see if that was anything I need to deal with,’” Adams said in a video posted to his channel, Real Coffee with Scott Adams.

“The first sentence is, ‘This is your favorite president,’ and I thought to myself, ‘No! Did I just send the most important person in the world to voicemail?’ And it turns out that I had. It was Trump.”

The president had called Adams to check in on him, and he gave Adams the option to call him back on the number he had called from.

“Obviously, I don’t call him back, right, because that would be ridiculous. It just was a nice thing for him to say because he called me,” Adams said. “It’s not like he’s sitting at the Resolute desk, waiting for my call.”

“I thought that whatever it is he’s doing has got to be more important than, you know, randomly taking a call from me.”

To Adams’s surprise, another call from Florida came through hours later, he said.

“I thought to myself, ‘No f***ing way! There’s no way he’s calling me again, and I answer it, and it’s Trump,” he said.

The president had learned of his diagnosis and had questions, Adams said.

“He was just checking on me,” Adams said, without giving specific details of the conversation. “He wanted to make sure that I was getting everything I needed, and that was it.”

“The strangest thing happened at the end. At the end of the call, you know, when he found out the situation was kind of dire. … He said, ‘If you need anything, I’ll make it happen,’ and he meant it.”

Trump was “completely aware” of the parallel journeys the two had been on since 2015, according to Adams.

“It was just the most incredible, weird, hard-to-understand situation,” he said. “But, boy, was it fun.”
