Britt and Moody on motherhood and the Senate: ‘Sense of urgency that moms bring’

.

Sens. Katie Britt (R-AL) and Ashley Moody (R-FL) reflected on how their roles as mothers influence their approach to serving in Washington, D.C.

“People get frustrated with Congress, rightfully, because we move at a snail’s pace in solving real issues that are happening right now,” Moody told My View with Lara Trump. “There’s a sense of urgency that I think moms bring to a situation because we are living it every day. I think just being a voice of, ‘No, we can’t wait, we have to get done.’ It’s not just for the children that we want to protect in the future, it’s for those right now today.”

Fox News host Lara Trump responded and drew laughter by saying, “They say if you want something done, give it to a busy mom.”

Both Moody and Britt touted recently introduced legislation, called the More Opportunities for Moms to Succeed Act, also known as the Moms Act.

“The Moms Act takes a comprehensive look at both prenatal and postpartum, and also early childhood development. The first part of the act puts all the resources for pregnancy right there in one place,” Britt said. “It has grant programs to make sure that we are getting telehealth to different places. We want women to be supported in this journey.”

“We want to place an emphasis on making sure we support you bringing new life into this world,” Moody added.

As female senators with school-age children, Moody and Britt both noted a sense of pride in recognizing the importance of modeling for their children the value of service to “the greatest country in the world.”

When asked what they wanted for Mother’s Day, both were quick to say they are excited to spend time with their families.

“I just want to hang out with my children and my husband and just that time. You realize when you have a job like this and you have to be away during the week, how precious that is,” Britt said. “I appreciate all that they do and all that they give up to allow me the honor to fight for our nation and the great state of Alabama.”

Moody added with a chuckle, “And I think a day full of, ‘Mom, you’re right,’” noting that serving in Congress is no different than negotiating with a teenager.

“I do think it’s one of the reasons why we’re so effective here in Congress,” she said.
