A fiery car crash near Yellowstone National Park in Idaho has killed seven people after a van and a pickup truck collided.
Idaho State Police are still investigating the cause of the crash, which resulted in an inferno that closed roads for several hours. The crash occurred on Thursday around 7:15 p.m. on Highway 20 near Henry’s Lake.
Law enforcement said there were 14 people in the Mercedes passenger van operating as a tour vehicle and one person in the Dodge Ram pickup truck. They said six of the 14 people in the van were killed, and the driver of the pickup truck, that vehicle’s sole occupant, was killed.
“U.S. Highway 20 was fully closed for nearly seven hours while emergency responders and the Idaho Transportation Department worked to manage the scene and clear the roadway. The road is open for regular traffic,” ISP said in a statement.
“ISP continues to investigate the cause of the collision,” it continued.

Officials said the Fremont County Coroner’s Office would release the victim’s names once the next of kin had been notified of the deaths.
Henry’s Lake is roughly 17 miles from West Yellowstone, one of the park’s entrances. Highway 20 leads directly to the town just outside the park. Yellowstone was the fourth most visited National Park in 2024, with 4.7 million visitors.
