Fox News host Steve Doocy announced Wednesday that he is changing his job site to become the “coast-to-coast host.”
Doocy has co-anchored Fox News’s Fox and Friends from New York City since 1998, when the show began on the network. While Doocy expressed his gratitude for the “great job” he admitted “the hours suck.”
“After decades of getting up at 3:30 [a.m.] and driving into New York City in the dark, today is the last day I will host this show from the couch. I’m not retiring. I’m not leaving the show. I’m still a host, but it’s time for a change,” Doocy said. “So from now on, I am working three days a week. Essentially, it’s the Johnny Carson show deal. Remember, Johnny worked his three days in Burbank, and I will be based in Florida, which means you may never see me in a necktie again.”
He will instead host the program from areas that “don’t get a lot of network airtime,” according to Doocy, with plans to be on-air from the Carolinas, the Florida Keys, and even Mar-A-Lago.
“So call me the coast-to-coast host,” Doocy said.
As a grandfather to three, Doocy said he relishes the extra time he will spend with his family. His daughter Sally lives in Dallas, Texas, and is expecting her second child in July.
Among those congratulating Doocy on his new role was President Donald Trump.
“I just think you’re a fantastic guy, you’ve always treated me fairly. Sometimes a little more fairly than other times, but that’s ok,” Trump said. “It’s really been an honor to have spent so much time with you and watching you and the whole group in the morning. It’s the No. 1 show in the business, and it’s going to stay that way for a long time to come, and you were a big part of it, so thank you for all of your service,” Trump said in a recorded message.
Doocy appeared more eager to criticize President Donald Trump than his Fox News counterparts. Following a raid at Trump’s Mar-A-Lago residence, Doocy questioned why Trump had any classified documents in his home after leaving office and dismissed allegations that the raid was random. Amid reporting on Trump’s tariffs, Doocy has opted to cover stories of companies negatively affected by them.

Brian Kilmeade, Ainsley Earhardt, and Lawrence Jones will continue to co-host from New York. Jones is the newest host; he became a permanent fixture in 2023.
This comes as other networks are reshuffling anchors. MSNBC, in particular, had a slew of firings earlier this year. Joy-Ann Reid was fired after anchoring her show, The ReidOut, for five years. Hosts Ayman Mohyeldin, Katie Phang, Jonathan Capehart, and Alex Wagner were also ousted from their shows.
