Trump announces Kennedy assassination files will be released Tuesday

.

President Donald Trump announced that roughly 80,000 pages of unredacted files related to the assassination of former President John F. Kennedy will be released on Tuesday.

“While we’re here, I thought it would be appropriate — we are tomorrow announcing and giving all of the Kennedy files [to the public],” Trump said after attending his first meeting as the Kennedy Center’s new board chairman. “People have been waiting for decades for this.”

Trump, who was visiting the Washington D.C. performing arts venue named in honor of the 35th president, said he would not be releasing an executive summary of the long-awaited files, telling reporters to “make your own determination” after reading the full report.

Trump has for months pledged to release files related to Kennedy’s 1963 assassination for public consumption, though the exact date was unknown. It appears that the date will be March 18, 2025, and, according to Trump, a vast trove of documents will be released.

“We have a tremendous amount of paper. You’ve got a lot of reading,” Trump said. “I don’t believe we’re going to redact anything. I said, ‘Just don’t redact. You can’t redact.’ But we’re going to be releasing the JFK files.”

He said releasing the files would fulfill a campaign promise and predicted that what gets released will be “interesting.”

“I said during the campaign I’d release them, and I’m a man of my word,” Trump said. “So tomorrow, you have the JFK files.”
