The goalposts keep moving on Epstein, JFK, and MLK files

.

United States Attorney General Pam Bondi appeared on Fox News with Maria Bartiromo last week. Bartiromo asked Bondi if the American people could expect any more information on the files relating to Jeffery Epstein and January 6, as well as the assassinations of John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr.

Bondi once again promised to deliver on the release of the files, stating her frustration on why she did not get the information earlier.

“I’m mad that I didn’t have more information on Epstein,” she said. “I was given 200 pages of documents. I’ve asked Director Patel — he came in after that, of course. I’d asked for those documents prior to Kash coming in. Kash is going to get me all the information; I’ve asked him to find out why I didn’t receive all those documents, and he didn’t receive all those documents. It might take a little longer, but we will find them and we will release them to the American people because it’s about transparency.”

While this seems like a positive development, it is another case of moving the release date goalposts.

Last month, Bondi claimed she had the files on her desk and would release them to the public. The Department of Justice later released a set of binders entitled “The Epstein Files: Phase 1” to a group of conservative influencers. The only problem was that nearly all of the information in the binders was already available to the public.

Bondi later said the FBI did not release all of the files as ordered and instead held them in the Southern District of New York. She said she found out less than 24 hours before the DOJ released the binders. At the beginning of March, Bondi said Kash Patel, then the newly confirmed FBI director, would investigate why the files were withheld and that he would release them to her shortly thereafter.

Although Bondi has been promising the files for almost two months, one can give her and Patel the benefit of the doubt. Although they are in charge of their respective departments, there are still old holdovers working within the DOJ and FBI that may be working against the will of the Trump administration.

That being said, time is running out for Bondi and Patel to remain credible. They can’t keep passing the buck to the other department. If the release may take some time, as Bondi said to Bartiromo, she should not act like she is on the verge of releasing all the information.

President Donald Trump expressed confidence in the release of the files in an interview March 15.

“The bottom line is the records are getting out,” Trump said. “The one I want most is Kennedy, and it’s moving along pretty rapidly.”

The American people should at least have a clearer image of where the DOJ and FBI are in the process of releasing the files. If the files are months away from release, Bondi should be honest and say so. Otherwise, the constant delays only provide more evidence for the suspicion that the full Epstein, JFK, and MLK files will never be released.
