Donald Trump Jr. pushed back against former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley after she claimed that his father’s top administration picks sympathized with dictators and were too liberal.
With Haley denouncing Trump nominees Tulsi Gabbard and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. earlier this week, the president-elect’s eldest son suggested the real reason she was upset with his father’s choices is that they threatened the Washington establishment.
“If Nikki Haley really wants a cabinet filled with neocon warmongers to satisfy the billionaire donors that control her, she should try running for President and winning herself,” Trump Jr. said before needling Haley for losing her Republican primary challenge to his father earlier this year.
“Oh wait, I forgot she already tried that and lost in a landslide,” he wrote in a post to X on Wednesday.

One of the behind-the-scenes leaders in Trumpworld, Trump Jr. is one of his father’s biggest advocates who helped propel him to a second term earlier this month. His defense comes after Haley alleged that Gabbard had defended Russia, Syria, Iran, and China and said that the Office of the Director of National Intelligence “is not a place for a Russian, Iranian, Syrian, Chinese sympathizer.”
Haley also claimed that Kennedy was “so ideologically opposed to Donald Trump’s views and Republican views” and called him “a liberal Democrat” before saying that Trump’s nominee for health and human services secretary did not have the resume to qualify for a Cabinet position.
Haley particularly took issue with Gabbard’s criticism of U.S. defense policy in Syria. During Trump’s first term, Gabbard often spoke out against what she described as his administration’s policy of “regime change” in the Middle Eastern country that has grappled with civil war since 2011. Trump’s defense department at the time backed an al-Qaida offshoot organization’s efforts to topple Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Haley’s criticism of Kennedy and Gabbard comes after she had a falling out with Trump this year. After serving as his ambassador to the U.N. during the former president’s first term, Haley mounted a primary challenge during the 2024 election cycle.
Although Haley later dropped her bid for office and endorsed her former boss, the two have soured on each other. Trump recently made it a point to tell the public that she would not be joining his second administration.
