Sen. Rand Paul should be offered a position in Trump’s Cabinet

.

President-elect Donald Trump has generated quite the reaction with his Cabinet choices so far. The selections of Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), Tulsi Gabbard, Pete Hegseth, and Matt Gaetz, among others, have sent shockwaves through the country’s political landscape. However, if Trump really wanted to choose someone highly effective at their job and cause an uproar, he would select someone whose name has not been circulated among potential Cabinet positions but should be: Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY).

It is well known the government has a reckless spending problem and has veered away from the principles enshrined in the Constitution. What better person for a Cabinet position than the senator who has made a career out of preaching adherence to the Constitution and fiscal responsibility. Consider the words of Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), Steering Committee Chairman, who stressed the significance of getting government spending under control while discussing the candidates for the next Senate majority leader.

TRUMP CABINET PICKS: WHO’S BEEN TAPPED TO SERVE IN THE PRESIDENT-ELECT’S ADMINISTRATION

“We have an unprecedented opportunity to reform the Senate and actually weigh our options for the next majority leader,” Lee said in a comment to the Washington Examiner. “We cannot afford to coronate someone who will push massive spending bills at the end of every year while sabotaging Donald Trump’s policy agenda. This forum gives the candidates a chance to convince us that they’ll run things better than the old guard.”

Paging Dr. Paul. Paging Dr. Rand Paul.

It can be legitimately argued that no other senator works as hard to bring financial responsibility to the Senate, Congress, and the entire United States government as Paul. He is also a staunch defender of the Constitution. These are two very important things the country needs and two very important things that would help the incoming Trump administration.

Consider his history of regularly exposing government officials’ reckless spending and routinely mentioning the need to return to an era of fiscal responsibility. As I wrote less than two months ago, Paul proposed his “Six Penny Plan” that would theoretically balance the budget in five years. The resolution would have reined in government spending by cutting “six pennies off every dollar projected to be spent in the next five fiscal years.”

Paul’s proposal called for reducing government spending by $329 billion in the first year. Spending reductions would have continued annually at a rate of 6% until the fifth year, at which time government spending would have proportionally increased with revenue paces for the next five years. It would have helped restore fiscal responsibility to a cadre of elected officials who regularly engage in the wasteful spending of taxpayer money.

Paul also doesn’t fold under pressure. He demanded accountability and that senators do their job in funding fights earlier this year. When much of the Senate was looking to go home, it was Paul reminding them that they had obligations to the people who voted them into office and it was their duty to do what was right instead of rushing to pack it in and leave. He has also been a steadfast voice in reminding the Senate that the United States is not the world’s policeman and shouldn’t be funding billions of dollars in conflicts that do not threaten the nation’s national security.

Putting fiscal issues aside, Paul was also strong on other matters, such as standing up against the suppression of rights by Biden and the Democrats during the early days of the pandemic, when left-wing agitators sought to squash any messaging or information that ran counter to what they wanted the country to hear. Paul was at the forefront of defending these rights and liberties that were being stripped away from the people.

Furthermore, who could forget Paul’s valiant stand when the Biden administration and Big Tech were in cahoots to suppress Paul’s videos and statements about the efficacy of masks during the COVID-19 pandemic? Paul’s research-supported claims were squashed by entities such as YouTube and branded as misinformation but later proven correct.

The senator from Kentucky also stood tall and persisted in other pandemic-related government malfeasance and overreach and refused to back down against the medical bureaucratic aristocracy by the Biden administration, including chief medical adviser to the president at this time, Dr. Anthony Fauci. It was because of Paul’s courage and determination, two traits that should be non-negotiable in senate leaders, that much of Fauci’s dishonesty came to light. Furthermore, ironically, Paul’s heroism exposed the misinformation from government officials such as Fauci, not persecuted senators such as Paul, as Big Tech suggested.

Month after month, year after year, Paul has exhibited the qualities of virtue and leadership. Instead of engaging in the regular political rhetoric that politicians use to claim that this or that person is a good leader, Rand Paul shows it every day he is in office. Actions speak louder than words, and Paul’s actions speak volumes. His insight and presence would be a valuable addition to one of Trump’s Cabinet members.
