Miami police searching for person who shot three women after election feud

Three women were shot in Miami on Wednesday after an argument about the 2024 election devolved into violence.

A person went back to their car following an argument related to the election and retrieved a gun while under the influence of alcohol, police said. The individual then shot the women, who are in their late 20s to early 30s, and one of them was hit multiple times. Two of the women are stable, while one is in critical condition.

The shooter has not been caught as of Thursday evening. “This is something that is of concern to us,” Miami police spokesman Mike Vega told CBS News Miami. “There is no place for violence, especially over a difference of opinion in politics.”

A neighbor heard the shots around midnight on Wednesday and was alarmed. “I heard shots and woke up suddenly,” Suly Ashe told the outlet. “I heard somebody screaming and didn’t want to open the door and put myself at risk. It sounded like four shots. Very loud shots.”

“It is horrible. Whoever is president now is president for all of us, whether we are Democrat or Republican. It doesn’t matter. It’s our country. It’s very sad that this happened,” she said.

Vega believes the shooting resulted from alcohol and the intense discussion being mixed.

“It seems that alcohol, along with the election discussion, led this person to go to the vehicle, grab a gun, and start shooting,” Vega said. “But this is not acceptable. We have to handle our differences and respect each other’s beliefs. We need to either reach an agreement or simply avoid such topics.”

Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the shooter, though casings were found at the scene. Police have not said whether the shooter was male or female, and there has been no description released.

Political violence has taken center stage at different times during the 2024 election cycle.

President-elect Donald Trump survived two attempts on his life during his run for the White House, including a gunshot wound to the ear in July to continue his journey.
