WATCH LIVE: Secret Service provides update on Trump assassination attempt investigation

.

The Secret Service is speaking about its findings from its Mission Assurance investigation of the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump in July.

The briefing, led by acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe, will begin at 1 p.m. ET.

In an excerpt of Rowe’s remarks, shared ahead of the briefing, he admitted that the attempted assassination of Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, was a “failure” on the agency’s part. Trump was shot in the ear during the rally, and one rally attendee, Corey Comperatore, was killed in the shooting.

The briefing comes less than a week after another assassination attempt on Trump was thwarted while he was golfing in Florida.

The gunman in the Florida assassination attempt got within 400-500 yards of the former president, but a Secret Service agent noticed the barrel of the gun while sweeping a hole before Trump arrived.

The Secret Service admitted that the perimeter of the golf course was not swept prior the Trump arriving, but that agents were sweeping each hole ahead of the former president.
