Now paging: Hezbollah terrorists

.

Israeli intelligence launched covert attacks this week against the terrorist organization Hezbollah, utilizing technological components to detonate hidden explosives in electronic communication devices being used by unsuspecting members of the group throughout Lebanon and Syria. On Tuesday, it was exploding pagers. On Wednesday, it was walkie-talkies. It was a brilliant and substantial blow to the Islamic paramilitary organization, with the exploding devices killing at least 20 and injuring thousands over two days.

This week’s retaliation comes after Hezbollah terrorism has victimized the world for over 40 years. Initially created to fight against Israel in Lebanon in the 1980s, Hezbollah evolved into an extremist militant organization fighting against Israel and its allies while claiming it was acting out of vigilance due to repression and suppression by the West.

Hezbollah, which means “The Party of God,” released its “open letter” in 1985. This manifesto categorized France, Israel, and the United States as enemies and listed the bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Lebanon on April 18, 1983, and a Marine Barracks bombing in Beirut, Lebanon, on Oct. 29, 1983, that killed 220 Marines, 18 sailors, and three soldiers as “punishment” by Hezbollah.

Suffice it to say, observing scores of videos showing Hezbollah operatives succumbing to Israeli intelligence technological wizardry was a welcomed sight. For far too long, Hezbollah and its cadre of murdering terrorists have been the ones with the advantage of surprise. This week, the group experienced some much-deserved payback.

Some of the other incidents of horror by Hezbollah include the hijacking of TWA Flight 847 in June 1985, the bombing of the Israeli Embassy in Buenos Aires in 1992, the bombing of the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association in Buenos Aires in 1994, and the bombing of the Khobar Towers housing complex in Saudi Arabia, just to name a few. The organization has devastated countless people all over the world while waging war against perceived Israeli and Western aggression.

The terrorist group has been responsible for numerous terrorist attacks in the Middle East region. It has caused the death of hundreds of innocent people under the guise of Islamic liberation. Hezbollah’s reign of terrorism has caused chaos and destruction for decades, all the while promoting a theocratic authoritarianism predicated on oppression.

Hezbollah deserved the retribution that Israeli intelligence bestowed upon it this week. And if we’re being honest, the group deserves much more and much worse. Crippling its network of operatives will hopefully go a long way to decimating the organization and eventually drain its power and influence in the region and all over the world. Hopefully, this is the beginning of the end for the terrorist organization.
