Trump distances himself from Project 2025 to Democrats’ dismay

.

Former President Donald Trump disavowed Project 2025 at a campaign rally over the weekend in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The denunciation was long overdue, given Democrats’ perpetual attempts to tie Trump to the sometimes controversial document of policy proposals from the Heritage Foundation.

Project 2025 is a 900-page document that outlines theoretical policies for a Republican administration. The former president said at the rally that some of the policies are “seriously extreme” and that those who created them are “very, very conservative.”

Whether Project 2025 is truly “extreme” or not is in the eye of the beholder. What matters most here is how unfair it is to tie Trump to a policy proposal that he has neither authored nor endorsed. Though many of those who contributed to the project worked for the Trump administration, there is no clear connection between Project 2025 and Trump himself. The Republican nominee has written on Truth Social that he knows “nothing about Project 2025” and rightfully furthered this sentiment on Saturday to continue distancing himself from what functions as a threat to his reelection.

Democrats have been erroneously claiming that Trump would enact Project 2025 upon reelection and have weaponized the document as part of their campaign strategy.

President Joe Biden’s Instagram account has referenced Project 2025 over 10 times in the last two weeks. Though the president is no longer the Democratic nominee, those on the Left will continue to claim that a vote for Trump is a vote for the policy proposals. The New York Times has written about it extensively and it has become prominent in advertisements. This false connection between Trump and Project 2025 has become critical to the Democrats’ campaign strategy amid Trump’s lead in the polls. So many of the Democrats’ arguments against Trump have fallen flat on their face recently, but Democrats are hoping this one might stick.

Their claim that Trump is a “threat to democracy” seems pretty hypocritical now that Biden has dropped out and Vice President Kamala Harris has emerged as the presumptive nominee. Left-leaning voters had essentially no say in the situation. That’s also not to mention that Democrats have been deceiving the public for years regarding Biden’s health. That seems pretty antithetical to democracy.

The “how could you vote for a convicted felon” line has increasingly fallen on deaf ears amid Biden’s domination of the headlines and some recent legal wins for Trump. The Supreme Court’s ruling on presidential immunity and the dismissal of the classified documents case has hurt the Democrats’ chances at using lawfare.

Tying Trump to Project 2025 is just the latest falsehood the Democrats have weaponized to scare people away from Trump. They’re clearly out of moves, and Trump’s timely speech on Saturday will force them to come up with some other line of attack.
