Former President Donald Trump holds ranks as the GOP 2024 presidential front-runner, as indicated in the latest National Research Inc. poll. The survey shows Trump leading Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) 42%-38% among likely Republican primary voters in the state of Florida.

Trump and DeSantis beat out other alternative Republican presidential candidates, all trailing in single digits behind the two favorites.

Trump was viewed as the candidate with the best chance to improve the economy, polling at 46% to 18% over DeSantis. Trump led DeSantis on which contender is the strongest to oppose far-left progressives, and voters view Trump as someone who cares about the needs and concerns of people like them.

Primary voters said “liberal politicians in DC” were among their top concerns heading into 2024, with more voters (26%) saying they were concerned about leaders in the capital than border security (17%), election/ballot security (12%), or taxes and the cost of living (11%).

The demographics for the poll were a 78% majority “Non-Hispanic White” and were fairly evenly distributed among men and women.

The data were pulled from 500 possible voters who could be headed to Florida polls in the Republican primary. The poll was conducted last week, in the midst of E. Jean Carroll’s civil rape trial against the former president, in which jurors found Trump liable for sexual abuse and defamation this week.

The possible 2024 rivals will hold competing events in Iowa this weekend. On Saturday, Trump is expected to hold a rally in Des Moines, while DeSantis will hold two events at the Sioux Center and Cedar Rapids.
