Sunny Hostin claims CNN profited ‘off the back of our democracy’ in Trump town hall

Sunny Hostin blasted CNN and its top anchor Anderson Cooper for justifying hosting a televised town hall for former President Donald Trump.

Hostin has railed against the network for hosting the town hall from its inception. The View host has been a CNN contributor since 2007 and claimed to be friends with Anderson Cooper. On Thursday, Cooper, who is the network’s most popular anchor with an average of over 800,000 views a night, defended “giving [Trump] the audience.” Cooper reminded his audience that Trump is the front-runner for the Republican nomination for president and encouraged them to stop “staying in your silo.”

“I’m saddened that [Cooper] tried to gaslight me yesterday by saying people are in silos,” Hostin said. “People are not in silos. They are choosing whether to listen to the lies or not.”

Hostin then shifted her focus to Kaitlan Collins, who moderated the town hall, for not having “fact-checked appropriately” and because Collins “didn’t have the range.”

“I think that that town hall will be studied in journalism schools around the country as to what not to do,” Hostin said. “Jake Tapper would have done a better job. Remember, Trump walked out of a 60 Minutes interview with Lesley Stahl because she was fact-checking him in real time every single time.”

The other hosts of The View disagreed with Hostin and attempted to defend Collins. Hostin snapped at them, demanding she not be interrupted after a nearly three-minute-long tirade.

“It was awful for the country, but congratulations, CNN, for making a little bit of money on the backs of our democracy,” Hostin said.
