The House Republican campaign arm is unleashing a digital ad campaign against 35 vulnerable Democrats, hitting them on spending amid the debt ceiling standoff.

In the ad, the National Republican Congressional Committee accuses Democrats of being “addicted” to spending taxpayer money, seeking to ramp up pressure on President Joe Biden’s allies in Congress ahead of his meeting with the “big four” leaders Tuesday.

SWING-STATE DEMOCRATS FALL BEHIND GOP IN FUNDRAISING AS ‘ENTHUSIASM GAP’ DRAGS ON PARTY

“Extreme House Democrats demand to keep spending our money like drunken sailors or they’ll tank the economy and allow America to default,” NRCC Chairman Richard Hudson (R-NC) said. “Every House Democrat said ‘no’ to addressing the spending crisis they created — if they won’t pay the tab they racked up, then they’ll pay at the ballot box.”

The ad campaign largely zeroes in on Democrats who won tight or surprisingly competitive elections during the 2022 election cycle. It accuses them of bringing the United States to the cusp of default.

“Democrats maxed out our nation’s credit card with reckless spending, jacking up inflation to historic highs,” the ad declares. “Now, they refuse to solve the spending crisis they created, voting against a commonsense plan to tackle the government’s spending problem, cut red tape, and curb our dependence on China.”

Biden and the Democrats have demanded a “clean” bill with no strings attached to hike the debt limit, while Republicans, led by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), have insisted on spending cuts being paired with an increase.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen projected the department will exhaust its “extraordinary measures” to prolong government cash flow by around June 1, giving both sides less than a month to achieve a solution.

A recent poll concluded that public opinion was nearly evenly divided over who bears responsibility for the risk of default.
