Texas mall shooter identified as 33-year-old man: Report

The man who shot and killed eight people at a mall in Allen, Texas, has been identified by police as Mauricio Garcia.

The identity of the shooter was confirmed by a senior law enforcement figure to the Associated Press. Garcia used an AR-15-style rifle to murder eight people and injure seven others on Saturday before being shot and killed by a responding police officer.

Senior law enforcement officials said that in addition to the rifle, Garcia was also carrying a handgun and wearing a tactical vest. Multiple other firearms were found in his car, according to reports.

Sources familiar with the matter told CBS News that Garcia had no serious prior criminal history, and was working as a security guard.

The Washington Examiner reached out to the Texas Department of Public Safety for comment.
