King Charles III coronation ceremony
King Charles III is being crowned as Britain’s new monarch during a coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey on Saturday, formally making him the first new British monarch in 70 years.
HERE’S WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT KING CHARLES’S CORONATION
Charles was previously announced as the king after the death of his mother in September, but the formal ceremony is the symbolic transition of power and is seen as a celebration of a new monarch following a period of mourning for the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Charles’s wife Camilla is also being crowned as the country’s new queen, and his eldest son, Prince William, is being formally declared the heir apparent to the British throne. After William, the next in line is the prince’s eldest son Prince George. William’s brother, Prince Harry, is fifth in line, after William’s three children.
