Sinbad is learning to walk after he suffered a stroke two years ago.
The comedian and actor’s family took to Instagram to update fans on his progress since he suffered a stroke caused by a blood clot traveling from his heart to his brain in 2020.
“Sinbad appreciates all the love and support you have shown him over the last two years,” a caption read alongside a photo showing the actor using a walker.

The family shared that Sinbad, who is also known by his birth name of David Adkins, experienced an ischemic stroke and had two surgeries, after which his brain began to swell and doctors found bleeding, leaving him in a medically induced coma and placed on a ventilator.
By May 2021, Sinbad’s family said the actor was off the ventilator and began to make progress with intense therapy.
“On July 7, 2021, nearly nine months after the initial stroke, Sinbad finally came home,” his family said. “He continues to receive therapy, fighting for every inch. His progress is nothing short of remarkable.”
“Limbs that were said to be ‘dead’ are coming alive and he’s taking the steps necessary to learn to walk again,” they added. “In his own words, ‘I am not done. I will not stop fighting until I can walk across the stage again.’ And neither will we.”
The family noted that doctors said survival odds for medical conditions such as Sinbad’s are about 30%.
“Sinbad has already beaten the odds and has made significant progress beyond what anyone expected, but there are still miles to go,” the family said.

Sinbad is perhaps best known for his role in the 1996 film Jingle All the Way. He is also known for his stand-up comedy specials including his 1990 Sinbad: Brain Damaged and his 1997 Sinbad: Nothin’ but the Funk.
