Glenn Youngkin’s PAC beefs up political staff ahead of critical election

Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s (R-VA) super PAC is beefing up its political team ahead of Virginia’s elections.
Although term-limited and not up for reelection in the fall, Youngkin has been keen on expanding Republicans‘ majority in the state House and flip the state Senate. His group, the Spirit of Virginia PAC, was formed last year to further that goal, particularly with get-out-the-vote efforts.

“The Spirit of Virginia PAC announced more additions to their 2023 coordinated campaign, including national political veterans Zack Roday and Brian Barrett. The additional team members bring deep experience in Virginia and national politics — with expertise in finance, political, field, data, and analytics,” the PAC announced.
As part of the hiring spree, the PAC will tap Zack Roday as coordinated campaign director, Brian Barrett as absentee and early voting operation director, Caitlin Collins Eager as finance director, Amanda Iovino as polling and analytics director, and Juan O’Leary as deputy political director.
Last cycle, Youngkin rode a wave of Republican success, flipping the governor’s mansion and the state House. His victory was seen as a prelude to a GOP red wave nationally, but that ultimately never came to fruition.
Youngkin is currently on a multicountry trip across Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea this week, seeking to bolster economic ties between his home state and Asia.

Since his breakthrough victory in 2021, Youngkin has elicited 2024 buzz but has largely cast that speculation aside, insisting he is focused on Virginia. His term is set to end in 2026.
Some of the 2024 aspirants or their allies have recruited Youngkin alum. For instance, Jeff Roe, who co-founded Axiom Strategies, has signed onto a super PAC aligned with DeSantis. Axiom Strategies helped Youngkin clinch victory in 2021.
