Exploding gas tanks see Polaris recall almost 140,000 snowmobiles

Nearly 140,000 snowmobiles were recalled by Polaris Industries Inc. Thursday after exploding gas tanks were reported across the United States.

Fuel tank vapors inside the tanks are being ignited by electrostatic discharge, Polaris said in its recall notice.

The notice was released in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, according to a report.

At least 30 reports of burst fuel tanks have been fielded by Polaris. A reported 16 of those reports included incidents of fire, and at least one reported a second-degree burn.

Snowmobiles affected by the recall include the 2021-2023 MATRYX and the 2013-2014 Pro-Ride, the report noted.

All individuals using the recalled snowmobiles are advised to stop doing so immediately and reach out to Polaris or one of the company’s authorized dealers to schedule a repair.
