The revelation of Fox News firing talk show host Tucker Carlson on Monday sent massive shock waves throughout the country. Many people were outraged, and many people were happy. From politicians to entertainers to political pundits, it seemed everyone had an opinion on Carlson’s termination. Unfortunately, this included some outlandish ideas such as Carlson should run for president. It is natural to make such bold takes at a time like this. However, that doesn’t mean it is any less ridiculous.

Moreover, one of the more prominent voices to pose this idea was Vivek Ramaswamy, a declared Republican candidate for president of the United States. Ramaswamy endorsed his support for Carlson’s candidacy in an interview with Politico. It’s an audacious claim for sure, but in reality, it makes little sense.

WHY IS TRUMP AFRAID TO DEBATE?

“I think he’d be a good addition to the race,” Ramaswamy said. “I think someone should only do this if they feel called to do it, but I think it’d be good for the country if he got in, to be honest with you.”

However, Carlson has no chance of winning the Republican presidential nomination if he did run. He is a talk show host and journalist and was immensely popular, but he wasn’t so popular that he could turn it into a successful presidential campaign. Plus, if we look strictly at numbers, Carlson’s show wasn’t even the most popular on Fox. That honor belonged to The Five.

Additionally, Carlson has absolutely no experience in government. This is not necessarily a prerequisite to run for office or win an election, as Donald Trump showed in 2016. Additionally, it’s essential to consider that a Carlson campaign would mean he would have to go head-to-head with Trump, and most likely, even though he has not declared, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL). Does anyone truly believe he could legitimately unseat either Trump or DeSantis?

Ramaswamy’s comments are nothing more than political theater and appeasing people who feel they were wronged with Carlson’s termination. Under no circumstances should Carlson run for president. He wouldn’t win, and it would probably lead to the GOP being even more of a dysfunctional mess than it is now. After losing the popular vote in every presidential election but one since 1988, Republicans need to nominate someone who can actually defeat President Joe Biden. Carlson is not that person.
