Homeowner fatally stabs suspect who tried to steal car’s catalytic converter

A California man was detained by authorities Friday after he used a kitchen knife to fatally stab a suspect who was attempting to steal his car’s catalytic converter.
The incident took place around 2:30 a.m. at a residence in South El Monte after the homeowner said he was awoken by the sound of men talking in his driveway, according to a report.

After we woke up, he armed himself with a kitchen knife and confronted the suspects who were attempting to steal the catalytic converter from the car parked in the driveway, the homeowner said, according to Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies.
Identified as a 45- to 50-year-old man, the homeowner stabbed at least one of the suspects.

Authorities arrived on the scene, declared the suspect dead, and discovered the tools necessary to steal catalytic converters, the report noted.
The other suspects fled in a small car, and the homeowner was taken by LASD officials for questioning.
