White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre launched a new salvo of attacks against House Republicans on Tuesday as tension surrounding the debt limit continues to escalate.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) delivered a speech on Wall Street on Monday outlining the GOP plan for addressing the debt ceiling. Some Republicans have indicated that repealing the Inflation Reduction Act, Biden’s signature domestic investment package, could sufficiently reduce federal spending to a level at which they feel comfortable working with Democrats to raise the debt limit.

“Let’s be clear what MAGA attacks on the Inflation Reduction Act would mean for American families,” Jean-Pierre said when pressed on the proposal on Tuesday. “Offshor[ing] tens of thousands of manufacturing jobs, including in districts many of these members actually represent. So, they’re doing their job there, I see.”

“Send investments and supply chains back to China, raise costs for prescription drugs, insulin, and home utility bills,” she continued. “Remember, that’s kind of the core of what the Inflation Reduction Act is.”

Jean-Pierre further claimed that repealing the legislation would “hurt American energy independence, protect wealthy tax cheats and make it harder to get refunds from the IRS, increase the deficit in the name of special interests like Big Pharma and billionaires because, as we know, the Inflation Reduction Act actually helps in reducing the deficit.”

“If MAGA Republicans get their way, this is what the attacks lay out,” she said. “These really quick, key, critical, important issues matter to the American people, and guess what? This is an unfair, unpopular agenda that the Americans do not support. They don’t support this.”
