Former President Donald Trump attacked Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) in a Truth Social post, slamming the governor’s feud with Disney.

Trump said DeSantis was “being absolutely destroyed” by the Magic Kingdom and speculated that the company will stop investing in the state in a post on Truth Social on Tuesday.

THE KEY MOMENTS OF THE DISNEY-DESANTIS BATTLE

“DeSanctus is being absolutely destroyed by Disney. His original P.R. plan fizzled, so now he’s going back with a new one in order to save face. Disney’s next move will be the announcement that no more money will be invested in Florida because of the Governor – In fact, they could even announce a slow withdrawal or sale of certain properties, or the whole thing,” Trump wrote. “Watch! That would be a killer. In the meantime, this is all so unnecessary, a political STUNT! Ron should work on the squatter MESS.”

DeSantis announced a bill on Monday that would revoke the agreement Disney made with the former Reedy Creek Improvement District board to undercut the state’s takeover of the special district encompassing the Walt Disney World Resort.

The Florida governor said the district’s current board should be able to use one of the “plethora of legal infirmities” in the agreement to void it but also said the legislature will get involved as “a strong one, two punch” while speaking at a press conference in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

DeSantis and the board are reeling from the discovery of an agreement between the previous Disney-appointed board and the company that stripped the new board of its power for the foreseeable future.

The agreement, which was signed on Feb. 8, does not permit the board to make most changes without permission from the Walt Disney Company. The “King Charles clause” in the agreement ensures Disney has autonomy over the district, which includes the Walt Disney World Resort, until “21 years after the death of the last survivor of the descendants of King Charles III, King of England, living as of the date of this declaration.”

Trump, who is also a resident of the Sunshine State, has stayed out of the Disney-DeSantis battle which has been unfurling for more than a year, but is now using it as an attack line against DeSantis. The former president’s super PAC has also aired attack advertisements targeting DeSantis on Social Security and Medicare.

Most view DeSantis as Trump’s chief rival for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024. DeSantis has not announced a White House bid but is widely expected to do so in late May or early June.
