Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) joined in on the conservative crusade against Bud Light following the brand’s partnership with controversial transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

DeSantis does not want to help “woke” companies in their mission to shape the country to their liking, the governor told conservative commentator Benny Johnson in an interview published Monday.

“Why would you want to drink Bud Light? I mean like honestly, that’s like them rubbing our faces in it, and it’s like these companies that do this, if they never have any response, they are just gonna keep doing it,” DeSantis said.

Conservatives need to fight woke companies like Anheuser-Busch by hitting them where it hurts, their bottom lines, he said.

“So, if you as a consumer, are like, ‘yeah … they’re doing that, but I’m just gonna keep drinking it anyways,’ well then they’re just gonna keep doing it. So, I think we have power as consumers to make our voice heard and, not on every company, because sometimes conservative consumers aren’t going to make a dent in some companies.”

“This one is, if you don’t have conservative beer drinkers, you’re going to feel that,” DeSantis said.

He further characterized the move to boycott Bud Light as a “righteous” one.

“Some of these controversies, they come up and people can kind of just say, ‘Oh well, it’s kind of a one-off, yeah it was stupid to do,’ but it’s part of a larger thing where corporate America is trying to change our country, trying to change policy, trying to change culture, and I’d rather be governed by we the people than woke companies.”

It’s unlikely he’ll ever sip on another Bud Light, DeSantis said.

“My wife and I … if we ever go out just to have a beer, which admittedly we don’t have [the] ability to do that like we used to, you know, we actually like the stout, the Guinness.”

Despite his no-love attitude toward Anheuser-Busch, DeSantis has been known in the past to enjoy a Budweiser and has accepted donations from the iconic beer company.

During the pandemic, he was captured on camera enjoying a cold one as he spoke out against lockdowns.

Speaking with Johnson, DeSantis said he did help himself to a Budweiser with some bikers but noted he will no longer be a customer.

Johnson did not ask and DeSantis did not comment on the hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign donations that he and other Florida Republicans have accepted in the past from Anheuser-Busch, including a $50,000 donation made to Friends of Ron DeSantis in 2021.
