Arizona’s failed Republican gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake came under fire for using Tom Petty’s song without permission.

Lake’s campaign has been using “I Won’t Back Down” at various events — to the surprise of Petty’s estate. The Trump-backed candidate hasn’t conceded the race to the winning candidate Katie Hobbs, a Democrat.

KATIE HOBBS BEATS KARI LAKE TO BE ARIZONA’S NEXT GOVERNOR

“The Tom Petty estate and our partners were shocked to find out that Tom’s song ‘I Won’t Back Down’ was stolen and used without permission or a license to promote Kari Lake’s failed campaign,” the estate tweeted Thursday. “This is illegal. We are exploring all of our legal options to stop this unauthorized use and to prohibit future misappropriations of Tom’s beloved anthem.”

The song was previously used by former President Donald Trump at a Tulsa, Oklahoma, rally in 2020. It solicited another statement from the estate, where it made clear it was not “complicit in this usage.”

“Tom Petty would never want a song of his used for a campaign of hate,” the 2020 statement said. “We believe in America and we believe in democracy. But Donald Trump is not representing the noble ideals of either.”

Petty died at the age of 66 in 2017 of complications due to drugs in his system.
