Riley Gaines, former University of Kentucky swimmer, vowed that she would not be deterred after a violent protest at her San Francisco State University speech this week.

“This does not deter me. This assures me that I am doing the right thing,” she said on Tucker Carlson Tonight Friday night.

She added, “This will not silence me. When they want me to be silenced, it just means I need to speak louder.”

Gaines rose to fame for objecting to Lia Thomas, a University of Pennsylvania swimmer and a biological male who identifies as a transgender female, competing against her in high-level swim competitions.

She was invited to speak at the San Francisco chapter of Turning Point USA on Thursday night about her fight against biological male athletes competing in women’s sports. The 12-time All-American swimmer’s remarks were drowned out by a group of pro-transgender protesters who had become increasingly louder outside the room. The protesters eventually made their way into the room where Gaines was speaking.

“It was terrifying,” she told Fox News host Tucker Carlson. “The police did not inform me of any sort of action plan. Turning Point USA invited me to the campus. I delivered a very civil and respectful speech where I had great dialog with even protesters who were participating in a sit-in.”

Gaines described the room getting “stormed” with protesters, and she was “rushed with no one there to escort me to a safe place.”

“I was punched. I was hit multiple times. I was shoved. Until finally, we exited the room, but we couldn’t leave because the protesters flooded the halls. I was pushed into a classroom where I was barricaded for three hours,” she said.

On Twitter, she shared video of a terrifying scene of activists chasing after her and police as they rushed through a hallway and barricaded her in a room for nearly three hours.

She found it “chilling” how the campus police were afraid to “put their hands on” protesters.

Gaines plans to press charges against the protesters who assaulted her.
