Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) called for investigations into the Justice Department and Attorney General Merrick Garland in the wake of news that a Manhattan grand jury voted to indict former President Donald Trump.

“It’s time that we said no further,” Hawley told Jesse Watters Primetime. “We have to call Merrick Garland from the Justice Department down to the Capitol. We got to call him onto the carpet, put him under oath. Find out what they’re doing. Has DOJ cooperated in this? Are they aiding this prosecution? We have to go after these Soros prosecutors who have been put into office all across the country and expose the dark money network that has gotten them into power.”

After weeks of rumors surrounding a looming indictment, the grand jury moved to indict Trump on Thursday for charges believed to stem from an alleged $130,000 hush money payment made during the 2016 cycle. The move is unprecedented, as no other president has been indicted.

“This is about power. It’s a demonstration of raw power,” Hawley said. “The Democrats know this has nothing to do with the law. They’re sending a message. The message is they will use any power that they have to interfere in the next presidential election.”

Hawley said Democrats are weaponizing multiple aspects of the federal government to prevent a conservative movement and a 2024 Republican presidential victory.

“These are the same people who have sent SWAT teams to pro-life activists, who use the FBI against parents at school board meetings. They will do anything, use any kind of power to try and hold on to their own privileges, their own positions,” Hawley added. “This is just unprecedented in American history. The only way out now is to win.”
