Gun control ghouls still can’t explain how an ‘assault weapons’ ban would solve anything

The gun-grabbers who emotionally throw themselves into gun control debates on the corpses of victims are once again demanding an assault weapons ban. They are also once again completely unable to explain how a ban would prevent any shooting, let alone the recent shooting at Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee.
This shooting left six dead, as well as the shooter, but Democrats only see it as another opportunity to promote gun control. President Joe Biden still doesn’t even pretend to wait for facts to come through, claiming in the same statement that “we’re still gathering facts” and need to “pass my assault weapons ban.”

White House press secretary Karin Jean-Pierre lectured Republicans from atop the corpses of the children killed, asking, “How many more children have to be murdered before Republicans in Congress will step up and act to pass the assault weapons ban?”
Let’s humor Biden and Jean-Pierre for a second. Let’s say that every single rifle, whether they be AR-15 “assault weapons” or not, was banned and erased from existence entirely. No questions about enforcement or confiscation are needed: Every rifle disappears immediately.
The shooter was still armed with a handgun. So what would have changed? Semiautomatic handguns, which are the vast majority of handguns, function exactly like semiautomatic rifles. And handguns make up the vast majority of gun homicides. All rifles, “assault weapons” and otherwise, account for just 3.5% of annual killings with guns.

In practical terms, such bans do nothing anyway because they are based on the cosmetic features of rifles — for example, on how scary they look. Biden called for an assault weapons ban after a shooting in Buffalo, New York, last year. But New York already had its own assault weapons ban. The shooter illegally altered his rifle in defiance of the ban.
The irrelevance of gun control proposals won’t stop fanatics like Biden, though. He and other Democrats continue to trot out the same emotional manipulation and the same stale proposals. They never explain how these would actually work to solve anything. It is ghoulish, but it is entirely predictable — because this has been the only gun control strategy they have pursued for years.
