G-20 leaders release statement strongly condemning Russian invasion of Ukraine

The leaders of the G-20 summit in Bali, Indonesia, released a joint statement condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The 17-page document made 52 different declarations, including a condemnation of “the aggression by the Russian Federation against Ukraine,” saying that most members “strongly condemned the war in Ukraine and stressed it is causing immense human suffering and exacerbating existing fragilities in the global economy.” The declaration marks a diplomatic victory for Western leaders who sought to use the occasion to condemn Russia’s February invasion.
The statement said G-20 leaders “[deplore] in the strongest terms the aggression by the Russian Federation against Ukraine and demands its complete and unconditional withdrawal from the territory of Ukraine.”

However, it added that “there were other views and different assessments of the situation and sanctions.” It is unclear which members had disagreements with the declaration.
Indonesian President and G-20 host Joko Widodo told a news conference that “world leaders agreed on the content of the declaration, namely condemnation to the war in Ukraine,” CNN reported.

However, Widodo acknowledged the disagreement around the declaration, saying, “Until late midnight yesterday we discussed about this, and at the end the Bali leaders’ declaration was agreed unanimously in consensus.” He added that the paragraph about Ukraine was the “most debated” paragraph.
