Manhunt underway after Denver high school student shoots two staff members

A manhunt is underway in Denver after a high school student shot two staff members.
The two victims were quickly transported to the hospital, and the suspect fled the scene, according to Denver police. Police identified 17-year-old Austin Lyle as the suspect; he is now wanted on charges of attempted homicide and was seen fleeing the scene in a red Volvo.

“We are looking for the suspect,” Mayor Michael Hancock said, CNN reported. “We will find that suspect, and we will hold that suspect accountable for his actions this morning in placing everyone in danger and certainly wounding the two staff members who were doing their job and trying to keep everyone safe at the time.”
Though authorities are urging the public’s help, the suspect is considered “armed and dangerous and willing to use the weapon, as we learned this morning,” Hancock added.

Denver Police Chief Ron Thomas told reporters that police arrived on the scene “very quickly.” One of the victims is in critical condition, and the other is stable. The shooting occurred in the front office area, away from the other students and teachers.
Lyle was apparently already known to authorities. He was under a school safety plan wherein he was patted down each morning before being allowed to enter the school.
