Rand Paul blasts Bragg over Trump indictment, says ‘DA should be put in jail’

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) didn’t mince words about his contempt against a speculated indictment of former President Donald Trump by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
“A Trump indictment would be a disgusting abuse of power. The DA should be put in jail,” Paul tweeted.

Rumors that Trump may be indicted raged over the weekend when the former president suggested he “will be arrested on Tuesday.” Trump’s remarks followed reports that New York law enforcement was undergoing preparations for civil unrest over charges against him.
At issue is an alleged $130,000 hush money payment that Trump’s then-lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen wired to porn star Stormy Daniels, also known as Stephanie Gregory Clifford, in the 2016 election homestretch. The payment was intended to keep her quiet about an alleged affair with Trump a decade prior.
Prosecutors have homed in on whether the Trump Organization falsified business records to cover up reimbursing Cohen for the payment. Reports indicate that prosecutors are seeking to pair a misdemeanor charge for record falsifications with a federal campaign finance violation to slap Trump with a felony charge. This is a novel legal tactic, experts told the Washington Examiner.
On Monday, a grand jury impaneled in the case heard from lawyer Robert Costello, who claims to have countered considerable swaths of Cohen’s testimony.

Trump has denied both wrongdoing and the affair. He has also issued a rallying cry to his supporters to “protest, take our nation back.”
“There was no ‘misdemeanor’ here either. There was no crime, period. All other of the many Democrat law enforcement officers that looked at it, took a pass. So did Cy Vance, and so did Bragg.
