After signing his first veto, President Joe Biden took to Twitter, where he singled out Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).

According to Biden, the legislators’ efforts to cancel a Labor Department rule, which allows retirement plan managers to be guided by environmental and social issues when making decisions about investments, “would put at risk the retirement savings of individuals across the country.”

In a tweet, the president wrote, “Your plan manager should be able to protect your hard-earned savings — whether Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene likes it or not,” calling out the Republican firebrand specifically.

The Georgia congresswoman hit back at the president on Monday afternoon.

“No one has put our retirement at risk more than you, Joe,” she wrote. “American families can’t count on checks from China to pay their rent and groceries like your family does.”

In a video included in Biden’s tweet, the congressional measure was labeled as “extreme MAGA limitations on retirement funds.”

The move by lawmakers is part of an effort to address the growing prioritization of ESG, or environmental, social, and governance, in business.

The House voted 216-204 in February to roll back the rule.

Centrist Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) slammed Biden’s decision on Monday.

“Despite a clear and bipartisan rejection of the rule from Congress, President Biden is choosing to put his Administration’s progressive agenda above the well-being of the American people,” he said in a statement.

“This ESG rule will weaken our energy, national and economic security while jeopardizing the hard-earned retirement savings of 150 million West Virginians and Americans,” he continued.

However, Biden claims that “this bill would risk your retirement savings by making it illegal to consider risk factors MAGA House Republicans don’t like.”
