Oscars 2023: Zelensky’s request to appear on telecast rejected

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s request to appear on ABC’s telecast of Sunday’s Oscars has been rejected.
This is the second year in a row that Zelensky has had his request for inclusion in the broadcast rejected by the Academy, according to a report.

His second Oscars rejection comes in the wake of polling that appears to indicate that American support for its continuous supplying of aid to the warring Ukraine is weakening, the report noted.
When his first request was denied in 2022, there was speculation that Oscars producer Will Packer had nixed Zelensky’s appearance over concerns that Hollywood was giving Ukraine support and attention because victims of the Russian invasion were white, the report noted.
Since the War in Ukraine started in February 2022, Zelensky has made the rounds at a number of award shows and festivals.

He has appeared via satellite at the Cannes and Venice film festivals and the Grammy Awards and has virtually rung in the New York Stock Exchange.
Most recently, he was introduced by Sean Penn at the Golden Globes in January, where he lauded “the free people of the free world — those who united around the support of the free Ukrainian people.
