Philadelphia’s radical, left-wing District Attorney Larry Krasner has a horrible reputation that precedes him. As the city suffers from the worst 3-year homicide totals in its history, Krasner has been at the center of it all because of his “woke” criminal justice reform policies that keep criminals on the street instead of in jail.

The city has been plagued with more homicides and carjackings than ever before. Now, even some Democrats are saying, “enough is enough,” and want to “circumvent” the DA.

Gun crime is the No. 1 issue in the city. As Philadelphia’s mayoral election starts to heat up, several Democratic candidates vying for the party’s nomination have suggested that if elected, they would find ways to bypass Krasner’s office to prosecute violent gun criminals. Instead, they would refer gun crime cases to state or federal prosecutors, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. They’ve finally realized Krasner has failed at his job and cannot be trusted to help stop the crime surge.

One of the candidates, Derek Green, is a former prosecutor. He emphasized the importance of having the rule of law in the city and insinuated the city’s criminal chaos over the years stems from a lack of holding criminals accountable for their actions.

“We need to bring back the certainty of punishment in the city of Philadelphia,” Green said.

Another mayoral candidate, Allan Domb, suggested similar efforts to go around Krasner and his toxic ideologies. Domb stated outright that if Krasner didn’t do his job to protect citizens, he would “work with state and federal law enforcement partners to remove the cases from his jurisdiction.”

Jeff Brown, another mayoral candidate, previously stated he would also take additional steps to ensure Philadelphians get the protection and justice they deserve. He specifically called out Krasner’s reluctance to prosecute criminals and how he would change that if elected mayor.

“If Krasner won’t prosecute them, I can hand them over to other authorities to get them prosecuted,” Brown said.

Krasner downplayed such comments and claimed he has widespread support in the city.

“Some of the candidates for mayor are not in touch with Philadelphians,” Krasner said. “This office has never enjoyed more love and support than it enjoys right now.”

While many rational people would laugh at such a statement or think Krasner is delusional, he has a point. Inexplicably, Krasner cruised to reelection in 2021, winning over 70% of the vote in the general election. Unfortunately, despite all the damage he’s done to the city, the people most victimized by Krasner’s policies keep voting for him.

However, given these mayoral candidates’ comments, there may be hope on the horizon. It’s a big step to challenge the city’s district attorney’s office during a mayoral campaign — especially since Krasner is also a Democrat. It’s telling that such a statement is an integral part of these campaigns so early on. Perhaps some Democratic candidate can save Philadelphia from itself.
